Our Team
Dr. Curtis Luzi
Dr. Curtis Luzi was born and raised in the rural Calgary area. He received his Bachelor of Science and Agriculture at U of A. In 2003 he received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Saskatchewan with the American Veterinary Medicine award in large animal surgery. Dr. Luzi worked in mixed animal practice in the Sundre/Olds area upon graduating before opening Riverstone Veterinary Services in August 2015. Dr. Luzi enjoys working with both large and small animals, with a keen interest in equine medicine. He has gained experience in the latest equine technology, including digital radiology and ultrasound. He is looking forward to working with you in all your animal health needs.
Dr. Kaitlin Coles
Dr. Kaitlin Coles was born and raised in chilly northern Newfoundland. She then moved to the warmer island of PEI to complete her DVM at the Atlantic Veterinary College. She soon realized that she couldn't pick a side, and found her passion in practicing mixed animal medicine! Dr. Kaitlin also has additional training in veterinary acupuncture and is looking forward to providing this care to our patients.
Coming from a rural fishing village, she loves to do anything that involves being outdoors including camping, hiking, and fishing, as well as playing any sport possible. She is excited to make forever connections with clients and their animals.
Hannah Feddema, RVT
Hannah grew up in Edmonton, Alberta, and though she was raised in the city, she values a strong sense of community and has strived to play an active role. This community involvement introduced her to animal welfare initiatives and shifted her focus to supporting organizations such as the Humane Society, WildNorth, and the World Wildlife Fund. She spent two years volunteering for a wildlife rehabilitation centre before relocating to Sundre to attend the Animal Health Technology program at Olds College. She completed her practicum at Riverstone and officially became a part of the team shortly after graduation. Hannah’s favourite activities include hiking, fishing, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing. When she’s not on the move, she enjoys tapping into her creative side with embroidery, drawing, or playing her guitar.
Brooklyn Young, RVT
Born and raised in Olds, Brooke grew up with a love and passion for animals. She spent many hours on the family farm riding and competing with her horse, Cal. Shortly after high school Brooke was accepted into the AHT program at Olds College where she graduated from in 2018. Brooke then put her passion for veterinary medicine and helping animals to work the following 4 years in the industry before taking a maternity leave to have their first daughter. In March of 2023 Brooke joined the Riverstone Team and continues to enjoy helping furry friends large and small. In her spare time Brooke enjoys camping and spending time with her husband and sheepadoodle Finnie, golfing, boating and chasing around her energetic toddler.
Laura Iversen, Office Manager
Laura was born and raised on her family’s dairy farm just outside of Olds, Alberta, where she developed a passion for animals and the agriculture industry at a very young age. Throughout her youth, she was an active participant in both Equine and Dairy 4H. She also had a strong passion for showjumping and that led her to competing across Alberta. After high school, she made her way to Europe, where she worked for a Russian showjumper as her main groom, and lived overseas for a number of years, attending all the major equestrian events throughout Europe and Russia. After coming home, she returned to the dairy Industry and worked in Penhold for a number of years before joining the Olds Riverstone Team. In her spare time, you’ll find her helping her brothers on the family farm, or in her vast flower and vegetable garden.
Julia Chandler, VMR
Julia has grown up her entire life with dogs. At six she got her very own, Pettie, that she was in charge of to train, raise and look after. This was the start of her canine obsession!
Floundering in a career direction, she became a Veterinary Medical Receptionist in 2005 and has not looked back. For the love of pets and every person who holds their animals on the highest of pedestals, she strives to be a supportive, knowledgeable and caring team member both to the public and her veterinary community teams.
Today Julia has 11 canine family members that keep her on her toes, and who she loves wholeheartedly. She looks forward to being the first contact you have with our team, and make you feel like family!
Precious Flores, VMR
Precious was born and raised in a small farming village in the Philippines and moved to Olds at a young age. Growing up, she was surrounded by all kinds of critters like pigs, chickens, and even a few water buffalo. Living in farming communities her whole life has kindled her love and passion for animals. She graduated Olds College with a VMR certificate in May 2023 and joined the Riverstone team in January 2024. Precious is dedicated to making sure every owner and furry companion (big or small!) are welcomed and well taken care of. Some of her hobbies outside the clinic include trying fun baking recipes, learning how to garden, and exploring the outdoors with her significant other, Johannes, and their dog Konan.
Dr. Meg Irving
Co-owner of Riverstone Vet,
Meg was born and raised in Sundre, Alberta. Following one year of undergraduate studies at Red Deer College Meg decided to apply to vet school overseas at Massey University in New Zealand. It is here that she spent the next 5 years completing her BVSc degree in Veterinary Science. In the last clinical year of her degree she spent time touring New Zealand, working in various rural practice clinics over both the North and South Islands. She spent the majority of her weekends working on a local dairy farm contributing to her keen interest in large animal medicine. In 2017 Meg received an award for her research on antimicrobial stewardship in the equine industry and is currently in the process of writing her first publication. She has a passion for diagnostic radiology and ultrasound and hopes to continue her education in this field in the future.
During her free time she enjoys golfing, hiking, kiteboarding, traveling the world for the best dive spots and of course spending time with her horses.
Dr. Brenna Sakatch
Dr. Brenna Sakatch grew up in Calgary where she completed both her undergraduate courses and veterinary training. In 2020, she graduated with her DVM from the University of Calgary. Dr. Brenna has a special interest in soft-tissue surgery, behaviour, and pain management. She loves to improve the quality of life of our fluffy companions. Dr. Brenna has received additional training at the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance in North Carolina. She has used these skills not only in her work as a veterinarian, but also as a volunteer during spay/neuter outreach. Dr. Brenna moved to Olds in 2020 with her husband and they enjoy time outdoors with their dog, cat and son.
Lexi Lafreniere, RVT
Lexi was born and raised in Calgary. She found her love for animals at a young age helping her grandparents on the ranch in Pincher Creek. Lexi graduated from Olds College in 2021 with a Veterinary Medical Receptionist certificate where she later worked at a 24 hr emergency clinic in Calgary. After this she knew she wanted to take one step further and become a veterinary technologist. She complete the AHT program at Olds College and joined the Riverstone Team in the fall of 2022. Lexi has proudly been an Olds College athlete on the women's volleyball team for four years and has been an active member in the community of Olds. In Lexi's spare time you will find her involved in a sports activity, creating art, or spending time with loved ones and her furry friends!
Rylie Mearns, RVT
Riley was born and raised in the Bergen area just south of Sundre where she grew up on an acreage around dogs and several horses. This sparked her strong interest in animals, especially horses as she spent much time in both the English and Western riding worlds. Shortly after high school she was accepted into the AHT program at Olds College where she graduated from in June 2023. Riley completed her practicum at Riverstone Vet where she enjoyed the team and the diversity of mixed animal, rural medicine, so decided to stick around! Outside of work you will find Riley spending time outside camping, riding horses and being around family and friends.
Kaycee Johnson, VMR
KayCee was born and raised on a farm in the Sundre area; her family raised a variety of critters - a funny farm of sorts. A love of all things furry and four legged, gifted down through generations, a career in veterinary medicine was bound to happen. After graduating from Olds College in 2019 with a Veterinary Medical Receptionist certificate; KayCee worked locally with associations, groomers, and clinics before settling down with the Riverstone team. Excited to make your experience the greatest it can be, in a community very near and dear to her heart. KayCee spends her spare time with her dogs camping or hiking, riding her horse by the river, or cuddling her kitties.
Savanna Babitzke, VMR
Savanna has always had a passion for creatures big and small. As a child she caught frogs and learned all about fish and reptiles, so when it was time to join the working world, Savanna got herself a job at the local pet store. By the time she was 19, she was working emergency reception at a veterinary hospital in Calgary. After gaining experience in both emerg and general practice, Savanna was ready to leave the big city to pursue mixed animal practice. She is already learning so much at Riverstone and can't wait to grow alongside her team of colleagues.
When not working, Savanna can be found doing anything outdoors. She loves camping, kayaking, fishing, hiking and searching for abandoned buildings to photograph.
